Singers tonight at JUCO have local tie
Baseball fans at the Alpine Bank Junior College World Series game tonight and subsequent fireworks show are in for a five-part treat.
A cappella group MO5AIC will perform the national anthem before the 7:30 p.m. game between Central Alabama and Midland College (Texas) and again during the fireworks show at Suplizio Field.
Josh Huslig, one of MO5AIC’S members, hails from Grand Junction. Huslig graduated from Central High School and the former Mesa State College, where he studied vocal performance.
Although he grew up here, Huslig never sang at JUCO, so he’s excited about tonight’s performance.
“This was a family tradition,” Huslig said of attending JUCO games growing up. “We sat by first base.”
Huslig remembers skipping school — with his father’s permission — to attend the tournament.
When he saw that they had a break in their schedule, Huslig got the other four members of MO5AIC — Heath Burgett, Jake Moulton, Corwyn Hodge and Roopack Ahuja — to come to Grand Junction.
MO5AIC, based in Las Vegas, performs around the world. Shortly after their performance at JUCO, the men will fly to Switzerland.
Their appearance in Grand Junction comes on the heels of the Friday release of their music video “Speed of Sound” and second EP “Re5et.”
The video is at http://www.mo5aic.com. The album is on iTunes.
As an a cappella group, MO5AIC relies strictly on voices for sound, including all harmonies, beats or instrumentation.
As one of the group’s music arrangers, Huslig has reworked the national anthem to reflect MO5AIC’s unique sound while maintaining the historical reverence for the song, he said.
The group has planned special arrangements for some well-known songs during the fireworks show, Huslig added.
Single-game JUCO general admission tickets are $8 and can be purchased at the gate. Reserved seating tickets are $15 and available at http://jucotickets.com/tickets.
