Six Glenwood teens injured in rollover
Three teenagers were listed in critical condition Wednesday at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction following a single-car accident just west of Rifle Tuesday.
Altogether, six teens, all from Glenwood Springs, were injured.
Colorado State Patrol troopers responded to the crash at milepost 86 on Interstate 70 at about 12:50 p.m. Tuesday. A westbound 1998 Nissan Sentra driven by Juan Moreno-Zavala, 17, went off the roadway and through a deer fence, the State Patrol reported.
The car then went airborne over a dry creekbed before hitting the side of an embankment and rolling.
Moreno-Zavala was airlifted to St. Mary’s, along with Ivan Moreno-Zavala, 18, Valaria Castillo, 16, and Jonathan Aguirre-Anchondo, 19. Ivan Moreno-Zavala had been upgraded from fair to good condition late Wednesday afternoon, and the other three were in critical condition, the hospital said.
Two others, Mavel Rodriguez, 15, and Jenny Lisseth-Medin, 16, sustained minor injuries and were taken to Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs, the State Patrol said.
Only the driver and Aguirre-Anchondo were wearing seatbelts.
All of the others were ejected from the vehicle.
The State Patrol said speed is being investigated as a possible contributing factor to the accident, but alcohol and drugs are not thought to have been involved.
