Sporting goods store looking at Mesa Mall
Cabela’s, the sporting-goods chain store based in the Midwest, is looking at Mesa Mall in Grand Junction as a potential new site, sources familiar with negotiations said.
The former location of Mervyn’s, which has been closed now for two years, is being targeted by Cabela’s, whose nearest stores to Grand Junction are in Lehi, Utah, and Wheat Ridge.
Mesa Mall spokeswoman Jammie McCloud said she could confirm no reports of Cabela’s interest.
“There is interest in the space, and we’re very excited about the interest,” McCloud said. “But there are no leases signed at this time.”
Officials with Cabela’s didn’t immediately respond to e-mails and telephone calls Friday.
Mervyn’s has been closed since 2007, and the space has since been used for holiday specialty sales, such as the Halloween Boo-tique, in operation now.
