Fruita freshman wins first tourney

Fruita Monument High School freshman Troy Dangler shot 1-under-par 71 on Thursday to lead the Wildcats to the boys golf team title in the Grand Valley Invitational at Battlement Mesa Golf Course.

The Wildcats won the team title with 221 strokes. Steamboat Springs was second with 230, and Vail Christian took third with 233. Rifle was fourth with 239 and Palisade took fifth with 243.

Fruita Monument’s Hunter Emerson won a scorecard playoff to take second ahead of Palisade’s Kyler Smith. Both shot 72.

Triston Quigley led Rifle with a 75. Palisade’s Skyler Miller took ninth with a 77 and Will Berg of Fruita was 10th with a 78.

Prep Boys Soccer

The Fruita Monument boys soccer team will have two practices each day next week, coach Dan McKee said.

Practices will take place at 6:15 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. beginning Monday on the FMHS practice field.

Interested players are required to have all paperwork and fees in to the athletic office prior to practice.
