Reeves places 16th at Worlds

Micki Reeves placed 16th in the ICF Slalom World Canoe Championships last weekend in Tacen, Slovenia.

The 21-year-old Grand Junction woman reached the semifinals on Saturday.

She placed eighth in the 2009 PreWorlds. Reeves was fourth in the 2008 PreWorlds in Seu, Spain and 11th in the 2009 Worlds in Seu, Spain.

Mavs second at first RMAC event

Mesa State’s Jennifer Hilts tied for second and Jessica Berve placed fourth Tuesday in the first RMAC women’s golf event in Silver City, N.M.

The Mavericks placed second behind Western New Mexico, shooting a 313 in the second round. The Mustangs shot a 308 for a 14-stroke team victory.

Faylyn Beyale of Western New Mexico shot a 76 to finish at 151, only one stroke ahead of Hilts, who shot the low round of the tournament, 74, in the second round. Berve shot 75 to finish at 153.

The Mavs’ Michelle Stripp and Kristina Casillas tied for 12th at 164 and Afton Balling was 24th at 171.

Hoppe, Savage lead Mesa to 20th

Calan Hoppe and Jeb Savage tied for 20th in the Peaks Classic men’s golf tournament in La Veta.

The two led Mesa State to fifth place overall, but third among RMAC schools in the tournament, which is a points event for the RMAC championship.

Mesa State shot a 293 on Tuesday in the final round for a three-round score of 892. The University of Colorado-Colorado Springs won the team title with an 866 and the Mountain Lions’ Brian Morfeld won the individual title with a 209.

Hoppe shot a 76 and Savage a 79 to finish at 225, one stroke ahead of Jake Jacobs, who tied for 24th.

Brandon Bingaman shot 75 to tie for 31st and Eric Farmer shot a team-low 70 and finished tied for 41st.
