Burgon, Selsor earn awards
Colton Burgon and Katrina Selsor helped lead the Colorado Mesa University men’s and women’s basketball teams to a pair of RMAC victories last weekend, and both received RMAC offensive player of the week honors.
Burgon, a 6-foot-8 junior forward from Sandy, Utah, scored a career-high 27 points Saturday in a 79-53 win over Nebraska-Kearney and averaged 18.5 points in the two games. He went 11 of 12 from the field and scored 11 straight points in the second half to extend Mesa’s lead to 20 points against the Lopers. He scored 10 points Friday in the Mavs’ 76-70 win against Chadron State.
Selsor, a 6-1 junior guard from Glenwood Springs, averaged 15 points a game for the Mesa women in their sweep of Chadron State and Nebraska-Kearney. Against Chadron, Selsor scored 10 of her 12 points in the second half and also had 10 rebounds in CMU’s 67-59 victory. She scored a team-high 18 points the next night in a 73-61 win over Kearney.
Colorado Mesa plays at Western New Mexico on Friday and at New Mexico Highlands on Saturday. Both CMU teams are 4-2 overall, 2-0 in RMAC play.
High School Sports
Tigers sponsoring food drive
The Grand Junction High School winter sports teams are sponsoring a canned food drive throughout the season for the Salvation Army. The food drive will begin Tuesday at the girls and boys basketball games against Delta. The girls game begins at 5:30, the boys at 7 p.m. Food collection boxes will be in the west lobby of the gym for all basketball game and wrestling matches.
