Sports in brief: Higgins, Kame on all-state team

Central High School’s Amy Kame and Haleigh Higgins were both selected to play in the Colorado Coaches of Girls Sports All-State Game. Only Higgins will be making the trip to Arvada West High School on Sunday to play in the Class 5A game; Kame has opted to skip the game.

Other Western Slope players selected for the All-State games are Kelsie Dardis and Courtney Geesing of Montrose, Colleen King of Steamboat Springs, Caitlin Brady of Grand Valley, Cece Pieper of Hotchkiss, Brook Ceil of West Grand and Kayla Pribble of Dove Creek.

College Hockey

Mesa club team hosts Orediggers

The Mesa State College club hockey team hosts Colorado School of Mines in a pair of American Collegiate Hockey Association games this weekend at Glacier Ice Arena.

The Mavericks (5-11-1) square off with Mines at 5:35 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $5. Students with Mav cards are admitted free. Families of students with Mav cards are admitted for $2.

Mesa State, along with the Grand Valley Youth Hockey Association Junior Mavs will have a skills competition at 3 p.m. on Monday at Glacier. Tickets are $1.

College Athletics

Mesa looking for anthem singers

Mesa State College is having auditions for national anthem singers at Mesa State athletic events from 6 to 9 p.m. on Dec. 14 at Brownson Arena.

The auditions are open to individuals, groups or instrumental groups of all ages. Singers will be judged on vocal talent, stage presence and their ability to perform before a large crowd.
