Stabbing was spillover from brawl

The stabbing of a man on Orchard Mesa early Sunday was believed to have been spillover from another fight in downtown Grand Junction between two groups, Grand Junction police said.

Police said two groups of acquaintances were involved in a fight just after midnight in the 600 block of Main Street. Some of those same individuals were believed to have met up at Eagle Rim Park, where a fight involving an unknown number of people continued.

One man was stabbed in a melee at the park, police spokeswoman Kate Porras said.  Police were called just before 2 a.m.

The victim remained hospitalized Monday, but Porras said his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

No arrests had been made as of 5 p.m. Monday.

Porras said the case remains under investigation.
