State license plate computers down again

Mesa County Clerk and Recorder Sheila Reiner reported today that the Colorado Department of Revenue’s computer that processes license plates and vehicle titles is down again.

A similar thing happened last month, and the department managed to repair it temporarily by using a used computer server, Reiner said.

Now that server appears to have gone down, and Reiner isn’t sure when it will be fixed, though she’s hoping it won’t take longer than a day.

Still, she said people can request titles and license plates, but they will have to wait until the system is operating again to have them printed.

“In the interest of customer service, we will build records by hand,” Reiner said. “When the system comes up, the state can validate and print the titles. If you can wait to get your title until tomorrow, please do so.”
