State treasurer to speak before area school boards
Colorado Treasurer Walker Stapleton will speak to area school board members Monday after a Colorado Association of School Boards meeting in Grand Junction.
Stapleton will discuss the Public Employees’ Retirement Association of Colorado, which is the state’s pension plan for most public employees, including public school teachers and administrators.
Stapleton questioned PERA’s long-term prospects of solvency last year during a visit to Grand Junction and endorsed Senate Bill 150 earlier this year, which allows the Treasurer’s Office to oversee all state financial obligations.
Stapleton will speak at 2:45 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel, 743 Horizon Drive.
The event will take place after a regional Colorado Association of School Boards meeting, which also is taking place at the DoubleTree.
Only school board members who attended the regional meeting are invited to attend Stapleton’s speaking engagement, according to his office.
Monday’s state association meeting is one of 12 routine meetings taking place this fall around the state for local school board members.
The region includes school boards from Aspen, Collbran, De Beque, Glenwood Springs, Grand Junction, Meeker, Parachute, Rangely and Rifle.
