Stolen car leads cops on search near motel
Police spent part of Monday afternoon searching a north Grand Junction neighborhood for a man believed to be associated with a car that was stolen in Rangely and found in Grand Junction.
Officers were called to the Best Western Sandman Motel, 704 Horizon Drive, about 2:30 p.m. after an employee reported that a man who didn’t appear to be a guest was going room-to-room at the hotel, Grand Junction police spokeswoman Kate Porras said.
An officer saw a man believed to be the same person spotted by the employee running into a neighborhood east of the motel.
Police set up a perimeter and notified roughly 80 residents in the area of G Road and Putter Drive through the Grand Junction Regional Communication Center that they were searching for the man and asking residents who saw anything suspicious to call 911, Porras said.
Police didn’t locate the man and don’t know his identity, but they did find his vehicle in the parking lot of the Best Western and learned it was stolen from Rangely, Porras said.
She said she didn’t know when the vehicle, a white sedan, was stolen.
Officers took possession of the car and processed it for evidence.
