■ Area students were awarded donor scholarships through the Fort Lewis College Foundation at Fort Lewis College in Durango.

Aaron McDowell of Grand Junction received the $1,000 Edith McPherson Scholarship. McDowell’s major is biology, with an environmental biology option.

Kody Roper, a psychology major from New Castle, received the $500 Jesse Brown Scholarship.

Marissa Molina of New Castle received the $1,000 Greg Harris Scholarship and a $200 Robert Mitoshi Dalla Scholarship. Molina is also serving as a senator in the 2013-14 Associated Students of Fort Lewis College. Molina’s major is political science.

■ Joseph Helzer of Grand Junction, attending Fort Lewis College, published his undergraduate research in the Fall 2013 edition of “Metamorphosis.” Helzer’s” research, titled “Selling the Liberal Arts,” was overseen by his faculty adviser Jillian Wenburg. Helzer’s major is history, with a European option.

“Metamorphosis” highlights the best in undergraduate research. Each semester, faculty committees at member campuses select two outstanding projects for inclusion.
