Student Spotlight: May 16, 2011

Palisade High School senior Rebecca Maldonado has received a $1,500 scholarship from the Mesa County Migrant Ministry in Palisade. She will attend Mesa State College in the fall.

PEO Chapter N of Grand Junction has awarded its 2011-12 Community Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to Hotchkiss High School graduate Brianna Duffy, a junior at Mesa State College.

The Mesa County Bar Association has awarded its 2011 John Siddeek scholarship to Paul and Sean Harmon in recognition of their participation in the Colorado Bar Association mock trial competition. The Harmons have been active in competition for the Grand Junction High School mock trial team for the past four years. They have been active members of the Mock Trial Board at Grand Junction High School.

Elizabeth Landes Schaack, a graduate of Fountain Valley School and resident of Grand Junction, is the winner of an A.B. Duke Memorial Scholarship from Duke University in Durham, N.C.

Troy Dow of Grand Junction received a degree in business administration with marketing emphasis May 6 from Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa.

Ryan J. Bixenmann, a 1998 Delta High School graduate and 2002 Mesa State College graduate, completed graduation requirements for his doctorate in biology April 25 at the University of Utah.

Jennifer Lynn Boe of Grand Junction, Martin N. Gaither of New Castle and Ingrid Lynn Wussow of Glenwood Springs graduated April 30 from Montana State University-Billings in Billings, Mont.

Mandi Marie Loucks of Grand Junction graduated May 7 from Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Mont.

Samantha M. Wallace of Grand Junction graduated May 7 from Minnesota State University in Mankato, Minn.

Kelsey Rowe of Grand Junction graduated May 14 from Western State College in Gunnison.

University of Northern Colorado has releases its spring 2011 graduate list. The following students were among about 1,900 undergraduate and graduate students who received degrees during spring graduation ceremonies May 6-7:

Chelsea Leigh Nelson of Cedaredge; Jonathan Andrew Dimarco of Clifton; Beth Joann Myers of Delta; Jeramy Wayne Harthan, Joseph Scott Hartman, Brett Alan Plankis, Hayley Swihart and Emily Turner, all of Montrose; Jorge A. Alvarado and Kara Dawn Bishop, both of Rifle; Taylor Blaine Schreiner of Whitewater; and from Grand Junction, Stephanie Marie Adams, Carol Carter, Kimberlee Castleton, Tonya Chapin, Emily Kathryn Earnshaw, Myranda Jo Hoffman, Laura Kappler, Hannah Diane Kinnett, Ashlyn Katrina Ledford, Wayne James Vohland, and Jennifer Lauren Coleman.

The Saccomanno Higher Education Foundation is seeking scholarship applications for the 2012-13 school year. Students must be residents of Mesa County or Carbon County, Utah. Send name and address to Saccomanno Higher Education Foundation, P.O. Box 3788, Grand Junction 81502. Applications will be sent out when they become available in the fall.

More than $700,000 in scholarships have already been awarded for 2011-12.
