Superintendent Mills finalist for new job

School District 51 Superintendent Tim Mills is in the running for the superintendent post at a school district in Yakima, Wash.

Mills was approached by the Yakima district when that district began seeking candidates for the post. Mills has been the superintendent of District 51 since 2003 and was given a four-year contract extension last June.

That contract gave Mills a $25,000 raise, boosting his annual salary from $150,000 to $175,000, as well as a yearly raise of 3.6 percent in its next three years.

Mills has presided over a passed bond in 2004 that paid for maintenance and facility update projects across the district, and a 2008 bond shot down by voters that would have built new schools.
