Supermarket employee accused of theft

Trudy McKinnon

A City Market employee was arrested Saturday on allegations she stole several thousands of dollars from the grocery store over the past year.

Trudy Jeanne McKinnon, 64, 2546 Gunnison Ave., was jailed on suspicion of single felony counts of theft of $1,000 to $20,000 and computer crime. She was released from the Mesa County Jail after posting a $7,500 bond.

A loss-prevention employee from City Market’s store at 630 24 Road called police Saturday morning and informed an officer that a store investigation revealed McKinnon had been stealing cash from the register while working at the fuel station. The loss-prevention employee said McKinnon had been voiding cash sales of cigarettes and pocketing the money, according to an arrest affidavit.

The employee said McKinnon made a written statement detailing the thefts, which occurred over a 13-month period, the affidavit said.

The officer read the statement and asked McKinnon if she had, in fact, stolen from City Market. The details from McKinnon’s written statement and her interview with police were redacted from the affidavit provided by police Sunday.

Police didn’t release how much money McKinnon is suspected of stealing.
