Teen charged in failed Fruita robbery

Fruita police Thursday said a teenager already in jail on suspicion of attempted purse robbery last week in Grand Junction is the suspect in an attempted purse robbery Monday night.

Adrian Peters, 19, of Grand Junction, is suspected of attempted robbery and misdemeanor assault of a woman around 8:30 p.m. Monday in the 100 block of South Plum Street.

The 41-year-old woman told Fruita police she was approached by a Hispanic man and knocked to the ground in a struggle for her purse, according to an arrest affidavit.

The suspect failed to get the purse, and a witness told authorities the suspect fled in either a dark-colored Ford Taurus or Ford Contour.

Peters is also suspected of brandishing a handgun three days earlier and trying to steal a purse belonging to a 66-year-old woman near Two Rivers Convention Center.

Peters is being held at the Mesa County Jail on $15,000 bond. He is scheduled to be formally charged in the Grand Junction case Wednesday.
