Teen in critical condition after rollover on I-70

By SENTINEL STAFF

One person remained in intensive care after a pickup careened off Interstate 70 near De Beque on Thursday.

Kelly Pacheco, 19, of Grand Junction, was one of two passengers ejected from the Toyota pickup when it crashed around 12:30 p.m. She remained in the intensive-care unit of St. Mary’s Hospital and was listed in critical condition, the hospital said Friday.

Also ejected was Seth Espinoza, 19, of Silt, who was listed in fair condition.

The pickup driver, Kathryn Stanback, 18, of Grand Junction, and Manny Pacheco, 23, of New Castle, have been released from St. Mary’s, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The westbound pickup went off the left side of the highway, struck a post and went back across I-70, rolling twice and hitting a tree, troopers said.

Neither alcohol nor speed is considered to be a factor in the crash, troopers said.
