Teen sought for county advisory commission
The deadline to join the Mesa County Teen Leadership Commission is fast approaching.
High school students have until 5 p.m. June 1 to apply for membership on the commission. The teen commission advises the Mesa County Commission on issues such as recreation, underage drinking and methamphetamine abuse.
The commission’s largest task is to assemble an annual youth activity guide that is distributed across the county.
Teens can print an application from http://www.mesacounty.us, under the current news and topics section, or call 244-1640 for more information or to request an application. County officials will interview candidates this summer.
Applications can be faxed to 244-1639 (Attn: Jessica Peterson); mailed to Jessica Peterson, Mesa County Administration, P.O. Box 20,000, Grand Junction, CO, 81502; or dropped off at the Old Mesa County Courthouse, 544 Rood Ave. in Grand Junction.
Applicants must be in ninth, 10th, 11th or 12th grade starting this fall and must be willing to devote at least six hours a month to commission duties. They will need to include two letters of recommendation with the application, as well as a one-page essay.
