Teens held in Pear Park stabbing

Police find suspects in Jan. 7 incident

Two teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder of a 21-year-old man who was stabbed in Pear Park.

Jason Ryan Ingram, 18, 419 1/2 Bear Dance St., and Jesus Ernesto Barrera, 18, were booked Friday into the Mesa County Jail. Barrera’s address was not listed in jail records.

The teens’ bonds have not been set. It was not immediately clear when they will make their first appearance in court on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder.

The stabbing happened the morning of Jan. 7. A woman living in the 400 block of Chert Drive found a bloodied man lying in her driveway, and the man told her that he had been stabbed, police said.

The man was stabbed once in the chest and twice in the shoulder, and his attackers fled, according to dispatch reports that morning. He was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital. Police have not released the stabbing victim’s name.

The man told residents he knew who stabbed him, dispatch reports indicated. Officers searched a nearby field and found a knife, blood and other evidence indicating a scuffle may have taken place. The stabbing occurred two blocks west of where Ingram lives.

Grand Junction Police Department Sgt. Dave Stassen said Saturday officers with the department’s Street Crimes Unit went out Friday night and “beat the bushes until they found (Ingram and Barrera).”

Arrest affidavits containing further details about the stabbing were not available Saturday.
