Teens accused in vandalism, theft spree

Joshua Maxwell

Three teenagers were arrested Sunday in connection with a crime spree, in which they reportedly admitted to damaging several vehicles with baseball bats, entering vehicles and stealing items from them and siphoning gas from vehicles.

Joshua Ethan Maxwell, 19, 3238 Glendam Drive; Kyle Meyer, 17, of Whitewater; and Matthew Inman, 15, of Grand Junction could face felony charges of criminal mischief and first-degree criminal trespass.

Maxwell is being held on $7,500 bond. Meyer and Inman were booked into the Division of Youth Corrections, although more details about their cases weren’t immediately known.

State law indicates names and arrest records of juveniles charged with a class 1, 2, 3 or 4 felony are public record.

Mesa County sheriff’s deputies took more than 50 vandalism reports of damage totaling more than $13,000.

The crime spree is believed to have spanned a wide area of eastern Grand Junction, including between 30 and 32 roads from D to E roads, north of 29 and Patterson roads and on Dawn Drive off 29 Road, according to an arrest affidavit.

There are also believed to be victims within Grand Junction city limits, although a number wasn’t available Monday evening.

Although the affidavit didn’t explain how, the Sheriff’s Department’s investigation led them to Maxwell, Meyer and Inman.

All three confessed to causing damage to multiple vehicles, entering vehicles in numerous areas and stealing items from them and siphoning gas.

District Attorney Pete Hautzinger told County Judge Gretchen Larson he expects to file additional charges against Maxwell as other vandalism and theft reports come into his office.
