Teens suspected of vandalism at Fruita convention center work site

Four teen boys are suspected of causing approximately $10,000 worth of damage to the Fruita Community Center construction site.

Officials were expecting the center, at 278 N. Cherry St., to open by Jan. 31, according to the center’s website.

Security guards at the site called 911 about 7:30 p.m. Friday to report a burglary in progress. Fruita police responded to the call and found four juveniles inside the center, damaging the facility, according to a release from the Police Department.

The boys ran, but officers caught up to them and detained the boys until they were released to their parents.

The teens, ages 14 to 16, could face charges of second-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit second-degree burglary, criminal mischief and obstructing officers, police said.
