Thief takes German beer meant for Oktoberfest

The Mesa County Sheriff’s Department is looking for information about a man suspected of stealing a truck and a trailer filled with 50 kegs of beer for Oktoberfest downtown Saturday.

The maroon Ford F-350 and a white refrigerated trailer were taken from Central Distributing, 3244 F 1/2 Road in Clifton. The truck’s license plate number is Colorado 835 IDA, and the trailer’s license plate number is Colorado 121 KHO.

Oktoberfest had no German beer to serve because the 12 kegs specially ordered by organizers were taken with the trailer. Budweiser distributors gathered some extra Budweiser and Bud Light kegs to make up for the shortfall, said Ron Ward, events chairman for the festival.

“At least we had beer for Oktoberfest,” he said.

The suspect is a white man with short red hair, approximately 6 feet tall and 175 pounds. He entered the business by breaking a plate glass window and stole the truck and trailer, plus two cases of beer from the warehouse, the Sheriff’s Department said.

The truck and trailer were reported missing on Saturday, but were taken Friday. The suspect also skipped paying for gas Friday night at City Market at 569 32 Road in Clifton.

Video surveillance at the gas station shows damage on the left side of the trailer along the bottom. The damage and property loss are estimated at $73,340.

Anyone with details about the incident can call the Sheriff’s Department at 244-3500.
