This Week in the Legislature, Jan. 28, 2013
Now that most of the Legislature’s standing committees have received their annual briefings from various state agencies, lawmakers will roll up their sleeves and get to work on various measures.
■ Today: The Senate Judiciary Committee will consider a bill to allow school employees to carry concealed weapons on school grounds.
■ Tuesday: The House Business & Labor Committee will debate two major bills on the new Democratic majority’s legislative agenda, one to increase funding to Small Business Development Centers and another to create a pilot program to offer free expertise to budding businesses.
■ Wednesday: The House Finance Committee will eye a bill to permanently eliminate the sales tax exemption on cigarettes and other tobacco products.
■ Thursday: The House Local Government Committee will consider a bill to allow county governments to publish legal notices online.
■ Next week: A House committee will consider a bill to add a new judgeship to the 9th Judicial District, while the Senate will eye a bill to require the state to remain at daylight savings time year-round.
