This Week in the Legislature, March 5, 2012

The Legislature has a few weeks left before it heads into the period of the session when the budget is put together, when much of lawmakers’ time will be dominated with debating next year’s spending plan.

■ Today: The Senate State, Veterans & Military Affairs Committee will hear two gun-related bills, one to prohibit bans on firearm possession during emergencies and the other to extend the state’s Make My Day law to businesses.

■ Wednesday: The House State, Veterans & Military Affairs Committee will look at a bill to bar discriminating against people who wear unconventional attire.

■ Thursday: The Senate Finance Committee will hear a bill to exempt all business equipment purchased during the 2013 calendar year from the state’s business personal property tax.

■ Next week: A bevy of bills will work their way through various legislative committees, including a measure to ban the use of credit scoring on hiring and a bill to require all businesses to verify residency status.

All floor action and committees can be watched or heard on the Legislature’s website,
