Three GJ council races contested
City Councilwoman Teresa Coons is the only member of the Grand Junction City Council who can breathe a sign of relief about her re-election campaign.
Coons is the only sitting council member who will not face a re-election challenge, according to paperwork filed with the City Clerk’s Office. Monday was the deadline for candidates to turn in their nomination petitions.
Every other City Council seat in the April 7 election will have two or more candidates on the ballot.
With Councilman Jim Doody not seeking re-election, three people have jumped into the contest: Thomas Lynn Kenyon, Ken Sublett and Terri Binder.
Incumbent Councilwoman Bonnie Beckstein will face off with longtime former Councilman Reford Theobold.
Bill Pitts, Samuel J. Susuras and Roland E. Cole will face off for outgoing Councilman Doug Thomason’s at-large council seat.
