Thursday nights in Fruita
The town of Fruita is hosting the popular Thursday night concerts again this summer, continuing a tradition that brings hundreds of people downtown to Fruita.
“A lot of the local bands are favorites,” said Kelley Griffin, special events coordinator for the city of Fruita. “People want to see them coming back year after year.”
Local favorites featured during the Thursday series include Stray Grass, Flat Top Reed, Centennial Band, XXX (Tres Equis), Pineapple Crackers, King N Trio and Desert Moon. Regional favorite Spring Creek of Lyons is also part of this year’s lineup.
The town is bringing some newcomers to the series this year, with Front Range bands Urban Island and Under the Radar and a night dedicated to New Mexican music, featuring Latin Nights and Suave.
Many of the downtown merchants stay open late, and people are welcome to come early, set up their lawn chairs and enjoy a picnic (or a pizza from the Hot Tomato or Pablo’s) while waiting for the music to start at 7:30 p.m. The event is free for the entire family.
The concerts are held at the Civic Center Pavilion every Thursday night in June and July and the first two Thursdays in August.
