Traffic Alert, April 7, 2013
Road closures and maintenance projects may affect traffic this week:
■ Interstate 70 Business Reconstruction Phase 3 starts Monday: The Colorado Department of Transportation will begin Phase 3 from 25 Road east to approximately 1,000 feet east of the Rimrock Avenue intersection. The project involves full concrete reconstruction, the addition of a third lane in each direction and access and intersection improvements.
Two lanes in each direction will be kept open, short traffic stops may occur and will be kept to a minimum. The speed limit in the project area will be reduced from 45 mph to 35 mph. Left turns in the project area can be made only at the signalized intersections. All business access will be maintained, but may be altered at times. Some evening and weekend work will be done as necessary to expedite the project.
■ 22 Road Realignment Project starts Monday: This project will reconstruct one-third of a mile of U.S. Highway 6 between Valley Court and the Exit 26 Interchange. The new intersection will move 500 feet west of its existing location to improve safety and efficiency. A new connecting street will be built linking Valley Court to 22 Road.
The first work involves removing the existing median and putting down temporary paving. Starting Monday, there will be lane shifts in the work area during the day time. Traffic will move to the outside edges of the road, but two lanes of traffic will be maintained in either direction. Speed limits in the work zone will be reduced to 35 mph.
■ 2013 Street Overlay Program: Asphalt milling will begin this week at the following locations:
Monday: Spruce Street on the east side of the Justice Center. The street will be closed for half of the day
Tuesday: 28 1/4 Road from Hall Avenue to Patterson Road with a street closure thru mid-Wednesday
Thursday and Friday: B 1/2 Road from Sherman Drive to 29 Road.
Expect delays in these areas.
