Transit driver in accident cited for careless driving

The driver of a Grand Valley Transit bus was cited Wednesday after rear-ending a Subaru hatchback on the Interstate 70 Business Loop, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The male bus driver received a citation for careless driving causing injury, according to Colorado State Patrol trooper Nate Reid.

The male driver of the Subaru and the bus driver each sustained minor injuries, Reid said. Both vehicles were towed from the scene and the eastbound roadway near 31 1/12 Road reopened just after 8 a.m., he said.

Two people were riding the bus during the incident but the passengers were uninjured, Reid said.

Grand Valley Transit contracts with company Transdev Services for bus driving services.

The company said in a statement that it is investigating the incident and working with authorities.

“We are thankful that no one was transported from the scene by emergency personnel for further medical treatment,” the company said. “The safety of our passengers is our top priority and we are investigating this incident.”
