Transporation stall

A Republican highway-funding bill — which includes Rep. Doug Lamborn’s measure to speed-up commercial oil shale leasing on public lands and another GOP provision to approve the Keystone XL Pipeline — apparently can’t even win enough Republican votes to get out of the House.

House Speaker John Boehner announced this week he was delaying a vote on the bill until at least later this month.

“The announcement came less than a day after the party’s whip, Rep. Kevin McCarthy (Calif.), informed lawmakers that the bill was falling well short of enough Republican votes to pass,” according to The Hill, a newspaper that covers Congress.

If Boehner can’t get the measure through his GOP-controlled House, it has almost no chance of passing the Senate.
