Trash talk ends in sucker punch
Football season has nearly arrived, and long standing battles between fans of the Denver Broncos and their hated rivals the Oakland Raiders have already begun, literally.
On Sunday, nearly two months before the two teams are scheduled to meet for the first time this season, a Grand Junction man was issued a summons on suspicion of slugging a woman in the jaw near Fourth and Main streets, the alleged result of an altercation between fans of the two teams.
It began when friends of the woman, Jordan Shaw, saw a group of guys wearing Raiders jerseys, according to a report filed by the Grand Junction Police Department.
The friends, no surprise, yelled, “Go Broncos!”
Shaw told police that two of the Raiders fans came running toward her and her friends “and acted like they wanted to fight.”
Shaw then stepped between the friends and Raiders fans in an effort to prevent a fight when one of them, Shiloe Pidgeon, 22, allegedly shouted at her, “If you want to step up like a man I’m going to hit you like a man,” according to the report. Pidgeon allegedly then hit her with a closed fist on the right side of her face.
Police reported they could clearly see redness on the backside of Shaw’s jawline, of which they took pictures. Pidgeon was issued a summons on suspicion of third-degree assault.
The Broncos will first meet the Raiders in a Monday Night game at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver on Sept. 23, and will end the 2013 season in Oakland on Dec. 29.
