Two arrested following Riverside shooting
Marcos Gomez, 20, and Nicholas Guzman, 22, were arrested Saturday in the 1700 block of Rood Avenue in connection to a shooting incident earlier that evening at Riverside Park, according to the Grand Junction Police Department.
Grand Junction Police officers determined at least three shots were fired at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the park at 140 West Ave. No one was injured but some of the bullets damaged a vehicle.
Dispatchers for 911 gathered a description of the shooting suspects and a vehicle in which they were traveling and shared those descriptions with other law enforcement agencies. A Mesa County Sheriff’s deputy found a vehicle in the 1700 block of Rood Avenue matching the description, according to a press release from the GJPD.
Grand Junction Police officers responded to the area and arrested Gomez and Guzman “based on witness statements and physical evidence,” according to the press release.
Guzman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, reckless driving, and a weapons offense. Gomez was arrested on suspicion of a weapons offense, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, criminal impersonation and violation of a restraining order.
