Two killed in Interstate 70 crash near Silt

Traffic on westbound Interstate 70 near Silt was rerouted for hours Monday night after a fatal vehicle crash.

Two people died at the scene and two others were flown to St. Mary’s Hospital with serious injuries in the single vehicle rollover crash. One other person in the vehicle also was taken to the hospital for injuries, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

Just after 5 p.m., a driver of a 2002 Acura MDX was heading westbound when the vehicle rolled off the road onto the right shoulder, landing up against a wildlife fence, Colorado State Patrol trooper Nate Reid said.

The interstate was closed a couple miles west of Silt and drivers were rerouted on U.S. Highway 6.

Names and identities of those involved in the crash weren’t immediately available Monday, Reid said.
