Two men held in sex assault of 3 women
Two men were arrested on suspicion they sexually assaulted three women Wednesday night after one of the women invited the men to their home, according to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department.
Michael Joseph Maestas, 23, 3222 D 1/2 Road, and Joshua Eugene Rickard, 23, 3243 1/2 White Ave., No. 2, were being held in the Mesa County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bonds after appearing in court Thursday.
Maestas was arrested on suspicion of two felony counts of unlawful sexual contact, and Rickard was arrested on suspicion of a felony charge of unlawful sexual contact and a misdemeanor charge of sexual contact without consent.
According to an arrest affidavit, the women reported the men attacked them in separate rooms of the home after they had been drinking heavily. One of the women reported that Rickard had recorded Maestas raping her.
All of the women reported they told the men “no” and “stop,” and the women reported hearing each other say “no” and “stop” over the course of the night. The women eventually were able to kick the men out of the home.
One of the women received a test from a nurse, specializing in examinations for sexual assault, and the report showed evidence of injuries consistent with sexual assault.
In an interview with deputies, Maestas said he was doing what one of the women wanted him to do, but he was too drunk to remember if the woman said she did not want the contact, the affidavit said.
Rickard told police he molested one of the women who had passed out to get her in the mood, hoping to have sex, the affidavit said. After police asked him if he knew what he was doing was wrong, Rickard said, “he knew he messed up and knew it was wrong,” the affidavit said.
