Udall to support balanced federal budget
Sen. Mark Udall, D-Colo., will cosponsor a constitutional amendment requiring Congress to balance the federal budget each year.
Udall is to join Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., in introducing the Balanced Budget Amendment. That would make Udall the first Democratic senator in many years to join Republican senators in cosponsoring balanced budget amendment legislation, Udall’s office said.
The amendment states that federal spending could not exceed revenue, except in special cases, such a war declared by Congress. And it could be suspended by the vote of three-fifths of the members of the House and Senate agree.
