Unemployment rate levels off in December

The monthly unemployment rate in Mesa County remained flat for December at 6.9 percent, the same rate reported in November, according to figures released Tuesday by the Colorado Department of Labor.

The 6.9 percent figure reported in November was the lowest for Mesa County since January 2009. That was 0.1 percent below October’s 7 percent reading and continued a downward trend that may have leveled out.

In related news, the number of people in the local labor workforce ticked down between November and December, from 78,087 in November to 77,347 in December, according to the data.
