United (Way) we stand

Even in the tough economic times of the past few years, United Way of Mesa County keeps chugging along, raising more than $1 million each year, and parceling the money out to nonprofits that are critical to a caring community.

On Tuesday, United Way announced that 54 local nonprofits will receive money from the $1.09 million raised in the 2010 fundraising drive. Recipients included Grand Valley Catholic Outreach, Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, Hilltop Community Resources, Marillac Clinic and Mesa County Partners.

United Way is able to make those awards because of the great staff and many volunteers who assist in its fund drive each year. But most of all, the hundreds of businesses and thousands of individuals who contribute to United Way make such awards possible.

Congratulations to everyone involved.
