Unpaid leave for sergeant in child abuse investigation
Montrose County Sheriff Rick Dunlap has placed a sergeant with the Sheriff’s Office on administrative leave, without pay, while the Montrose Police Department and others investigate allegations of child abuse, it was announced Thursday.
The sergeant was not identified by the Sheriff’s Office in a press release reporting the decision to place the person on unpaid leave. The announcement additionally noted that there have been no arrests and no charges filed in the case to this point.
An investigation is being conducted by the police in concert with the Mesa County Department of Human Services, it was announced. The Montrose County Sheriff’s Office also is conducting its own internal investigation into the matter, said a public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office policy is that any employee who is the subject of a criminal investigation is placed on administrative leave without pay pending completion of the investigation. No time frame was given about how long the investigations may take.
