Vandals rip BP’s name from Durango awning

DURANGO — Vandals ripped BP’s name from the awning of the Durango Arts Center in an apparent protest against the company.

Center Director Sheri Rochford Figgs says the nonprofit arts organization will have to replace the entire awning following the vandalism last week. The awning has the names of various donors to the arts center but only BP’s name was ripped off.

The company drills for natural gas in Colorado.

Rochford Figgs says she doesn’t know how much it has contributed to the center. She says that those responsible are probably mad at BP but they shouldn’t take their anger out at the arts center. The center features theater, live music, education and visual art displays.
