Vicious-dog owner faces April hearing

The owner of a dog ordered euthanized by a Montrose municipal judge faces an April 11 hearing to explain to the judge why he has failed to turn the animal over to authorities.

Dog owner Jeremiah Aguilar failed to turn over his dog, Dutch, earlier this month after Judge Richard Brown reiterated an order that the dog be euthanized and that Aguilar serve two days in jail in connection with the dog’s attack on a woman last year.

Aguilar, who city spokesman David Spear said hasn’t been seen by officials since his sentencing hearing on Feb. 14, has filed an appeal of the municipal court ruling in Montrose County Court.
