Video, tip lead to arrest in store break-in

Dylan Martin

Police allege the man in this surveillance photo is Dylan Martin.

An anonymous tip based on security camera images has led to an arrest in a break-in of the Catherine Store outside Carbondale, the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office said.

Dylan Martin, 20, 17605 Highway 82 in Carbondale, was arrested without incident Tuesday evening and faces charges including felony second-degree burglary. He posted a $1,000 bond shortly after being booked into the Garfield County Jail and is due in court for advisement of charges on June 9.

The arrest follows the release of images through the Garfield County Crime Stoppers program. They show a shirtless man peering through a glass door into the store.

Shortly after seeing the Crime Stoppers item in the Glenwood Springs Post Independent Friday, an anonymous caller told a Crime Stoppers representative that he knew the name of the man in the images. The name corresponded with other evidence being collected by detectives, the sheriff’s office said.

Martin’s residence is about a mile and a half east of the Catherine Store.

The sheriff’s office said surveillance video shows a man trying to break through the front and back doors of the store in the early-morning hours on May 16, and causing about $200 damage to the doors. He took a step into the store before running off to the west, possibly having been deterred by an alarm.
