Walmart worker assaulted with PlayStation console

A would-be thief eluded capture at North Avenue’s Walmart after assaulting an employee Friday with a Sony PlayStation 3 game console, according to Grand Junction police.

Police were called to the store at 2881 North Ave. shortly after 5:30 p.m., after a loss-prevention officer said he was struck in the groin with one of the consoles when he tried to stop the suspect from leaving with two of the PlayStation devices in hand, according to an incident report.

The suspect dropped the items and ran to a white Ford Expedition that appeared to be waiting for him near 29 Road and Teller Avenue, the report said.

The suspect’s New York Yankees baseball hat was knocked off during the skirmish and seized as evidence.

A store surveillance system didn’t capture a good image of the suspect’s face, the report said.

The case was closed for lack of leads.
