Walter Walker’s resonant words
The former publisher of The Daily Sentinel, Walter Walker, realized a dream when he organized and led the effort to build the Avalon Theatre in 1922.
Upon its completion, his words, excerpted here, ring particularly true — especially as the theater stands on the precipice of a new era.
“This city can now list among its assets a large, standard, modern theater equal in size, appointments and equipment to any theatre to be found in any of the smaller cities of America.
A faith in the future of Grand Junction and a belief that Grand Junction and western Colorado will give the deserved support to such a theatre have made possible the financing of this large project.
Every honorable effort to make The Avalon one of the best known, one of the best conducted, one of the most popular and one of the most successful theaters and auditoriums in the west will be our ambition.”
