UPDATE: Water line breaks on Redlands

A couple dozen Redlands residents will be without water for a few hours late this afternoon and early this evening after a Ute Water Conservancy District distribution line ruptured.

The 4-inch line broke underneath Colorado Highway 340 between Rainbow Ranch Drive and Colonial Road. At 2 p.m., water was seen cascading down the highway and the asphalt on the eastbound shoulder of the road split open.

“With the colder weather, we’re experiencing a lot of water line breaks, just because the ground is shifting a lot,” Ute Water spokesman Joe Burtard said.

Burtard said 20 to 25 homes on the south side of Highway 340 in the area of the break will be without water for two or three hours while crews make repairs.
