Water line replacements near college begin today
Motorists navigating two streets near Mesa State College should expect delays for the next two months, as the city of Grand Junction replaces a series of old water lines.
Construction work begins today at the intersection of 12th Street and Orchard Avenue, with northbound and southbound traffic on 12th reduced from two lanes each direction to one in the intersection. Work in the intersection will be completed Sunday.
Water-line replacement will continue south along 12th Street to Elm Avenue, and traffic on 12th will be reduced to one lane each direction. That work should be done by the beginning of May, city officials say.
Crews will then replace water lines in Orchard Avenue between 12th Street and Cannell Avenue. Two-way traffic will be maintained on the north side of Orchard. No vehicles will be allowed to be parked along Orchard during construction.
The work on Orchard is scheduled to be done by June 5.
The water line replacements will result in periodic water outages, but city officials say they will try to keep them to a minimum and provide businesses in the area with 24-hour notice.
