Welcome, Cabela’s, to Grand Junction
This afternoon is the grand opening of the Cabela’s store in Mesa Mall, as most people hereabouts no doubt know, unless they have been living in a cave somewhere.
If you have been living in a cave, you ought to make the trek to Cabela’s as well. The world’s foremost outfitter of hunting, fishing and outdoor gear probably has just the right equipment to make your rock abode more comfy.
The rest of us may settle for more conventional, but no less exceptional outdoor-sports merchandise.
The Cabela’s store in Grand Junction is the first in Colorado, beating out the Front Range as the first retail outlet in this state for the sporting-goods giant.
That makes sense to us. After all, the center of outdoor sports in Colorado is the Western Slope. We think Cabela’s will be a great fit here, where so many people choose to live in large part because of the vast variety of outdoor activities available.
We hope the local store will be the regional draw that other Cabela’s outlets are, attracting sporting-goods customers from hundreds of miles away. The company is already providing jobs to some 200 workers, most of them hired from the local populace.
We join many people locally in welcoming Cabela’s to Grand Junction and hope it will find its decision to locate a store here a very worthwhile venture.
If you can’t make it to today’s grand opening, we hope area residents will visit the new store in the coming days. An advertisement on the back page of this section provides information on in-store events over the next few days.
