Well-traveled sketchbook artist to give 2 presentations at Mesa
Kurt D. Hollomon describes himself as “a modern day Magellan with a Micron pen or possibly Lewis or Clark in a Land Rover; bouncing toward the southern tip of Patagonia with ... a shoulder bag filled with drawing supplies,” according to a news release.
A former Mount Rainier climbing guide, Hollomon is a sketchbook artist, illustrator, designer and has taught drawing and illustration for the past 10 years at Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Ore.
Hollomon, whose work has been published in Chornicle Books’ “The Adventure Journal, On Foot: A Hiking Journal” and “In Gear: A Biking Journal,” will give two presentations at Mesa State College.
On Friday, Sept. 17, Hollomon will lecture about drawing techniques from 10–10:50 a.m., and then there will be a presentation and discussion of Hollomon’s sketchbook artwork from 1:30–3 p.m. Both will be in the Fine Arts Building, room 202, and are open to members of the community as well as college students.
Hollomon’s appearances are part of the Visiting Artist Series sponsored by the college’s Art Department and the Johnson Art Gallery.
