Which Wich? coming to Grand Junction
After nearly 20 years of working side-by-side with businesses, helping them showcase their products and services through newspaper advertising, Robert Fowler decided to go into business for himself.
In his search for the right concept, he conducted research and traveled to franchise shows. He was well-versed in advertising and marketing. It was just a matter of which sector he felt fit best in the Grand Junction market.
It ended up being a matter of Which Wich?
The Grand Junction resident and former advertising manager for The Daily Sentinel is preparing to open a local franchise of the Dallas, Texas-based restaurant company. He plans to create at least three sandwich shops in Grand Junction and the immediate surrounding area.
The first one, which should open in April, will be located at 1125 Patterson Road. The building formerly housed two other sandwich shops: Quiznos and, most recently, Stackers. Fowler said he expects to hire 15 to 18 employees.
“I thought it was a good fit for the market,” Fowler said of becoming a Which Wich? franchisee. “It’s a growing franchise that was very successful but still in the early stages and had a lot of room for growth.”
Fowler said customers will notice a difference between Which Wich? and other sandwich shops the minute they enter the restaurant.
Rather than walking down a counter and pointing out the ingredients they want, customers grab a paper bag with preprinted choices on it and a red marker. They then mark one of more than 50 sandwiches, along with the bread, cheese, toppings and spreads they want, and hand their order to the cashier. The restaurant will feature a news wall where customers can read the newspaper and an art wall displaying customer artwork on the paper bags.
All sandwiches are the same price, regardless of the number of toppings, except for the so-called Wicked Wich. Fowler said he is still setting prices but estimated sandwiches will cost around $5.
Which Wich? also offers homemade chips, hot cookies and milkshakes.
“It kind of gives a whole new meaning to what a sandwich shop is,” he said. “I think folks will be excited about what it’s all about.”
Which Wich? has 100 locations in 18 states, including five in Colorado.
