Wildfire in Evergreen prompts evacuations

EVERGREEN — Officials say a fire has broken out on a little over one acre in Evergreen, prompting evacuations.

Jefferson County sheriff’s spokesman Mark Techmeyer said today the fire is burning in some heavy grass near Evergreen Parkway and Squaw Pass Road.

Techmeyer says the fire is burning in a residential area. He says officers initially went door to door telling residents to leave, and they’ve now done reverse 911 phone calls.

He didn’t immediately know how many homes are threatened or evacuated.
