Woman shot dead in Clifton

Male suspect taken into custody by sheriff's deputies

Mesa County Sheriff’s Office deputies investigate the scene late Saturday night where a woman was found dead at a fourplex at 3296½ Lombardy Lane.

A woman is dead and a male suspect is in custody after a Saturday night shooting in a Clifton neighborhood.

At 9:41 p.m. Saturday, law enforcement received a call about shots fired at 3296½ Lombardy Lane.

Officers who responded to the apartment building where the incident happened found a female victim dead at the scene, said Sgt. Henry Stoffel of the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.

A man was taken into custody at the scene and taken to St. Mary’s Hospital for observation, Stoffel said.

A woman who lives across the street said she heard two shots and that when the man, who she said appears to be in his 20s, came outside the apartment, he was ranting and combative.

Stoffel said there were no other victims and law enforcement is not looking for any other suspects in the incident.

No other details were being released late Saturday night.
