Woman arrested at Clifton bar; drug use alleged
A Grand Junction woman was arrested early Sunday morning on allegations she injected possessed Ecstasy at a Clifton bar.
Dominicques Deon Smith, 21, 585 25 1/2 Road, No. 168, was booked into Mesa County Jail on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance. She is being held without bond, pending her first appearance in court today.
Mesa County sheriff’s deputies responded to the Cactus Canyon nightclub, 3210 Interstate 70 Business Loop, just after 1 a.m. after two club employees said they saw Smith injecting herself in the women’s restroom, an arrest affidavit alleges.
One of the employees also saw a small plastic bag containing tablets sticking out of Smith’s pants pocket and took the bag, the affidavit said.
Smith told deputies she had been in a car accident two weeks ago and suffered a back injury. She said she had been at another bar Saturday night playing pool with another woman she didn’t know and was complaining to the woman about her back pain, the affidavit said.
Smith said the woman gave her a bag with four tablets in it and told her it was medication to relieve back pain. Smith said she bought the woman $20 worth of drinks for the tablets, the affidavit said.
A deputy told Smith it appeared to him the tablets were Ecstasy, but Smith insisted she believed they were for back pain and denied injecting anything into herself. Deputies later tested the tablets, which tested positive for Ecstasy.
No syringes were found.
